Exhibition ticket - CinéMode by Jean Paul Gaultier
He stopped Haute-Couture more than a year ago but one thing is certain, Jean Paul Gaultier has not left the fashion world for all that.
Invited by the Cinémathèque, he becomes a curator for an exceptional event, a story at the crossroads of cinema and fashion, where great couturiers and movie stars come together for a parade unlike any other.
Profoundly cinephile, for this unique retrospective, the designer has selected emblematic costumes from his workshops or designed by other big names in the fashion world. The statuesque outfits of Marilyn Monroe, the little black dress of Audrey Hepburn, the masculine wardrobe of Marlene Dietrich, the bespoke tuxedo of James Bond, the leotard of Superman,… so many iconic pieces that interact in a surprising experience. More than ever, Jean Paul Gaultier wants to remind people that these legendary outfits are inseparable from the work of writing. Glamour, sequins, rhinestones and embroidery, sometimes crazy or minimalist looks come together in an elegant mix of genres to tell the fascinating story of clothing in the cinema.
Jean Paul Gaultier himself strongly contributed to this history by often emphasising the 7th art in his parades and by collaborating with some of the greatest directors. The costumes of The Bad Education by Pedro Almodovar, Closer to Heaven by Tonie Marshall in which he dresses Catherine Deneuve without forgetting The Fifth Element by Luc Besson in which he gives free rein to his eccentricity, are to his credit.
The CinéMode exhibition is accompanied by a programme commensurate with the event. Screenings of cult films, The Rocky Horror Picture Show by Jim Sharman and Falbalas by Jacques Becker, among the favourite films of Jean Paul Gaultier, workshops for children, conferences up to the signature of the catalogue by Gaultier himself!
