Giorgio de Chirico. La peinture métaphysique

Giorgio de Chirico. Metaphysical painting

NEW DATES - The Orangery Museum celebrates the Italian painter, sculptor and writer Giorgio de Chirico (1888-1978).

  1. Giorgio de Chirico. Metaphysical painting

Description

More than 10 years after the retrospective organized by the Musée d'art moderne de Paris, the exhibition Giorgio de Chirico. Metaphysical Painting presents the work of this enigmatic artist and retraces the artistic and philosophical influences that nourished him, from Munich to Turin, then to Paris where he discovered the pictorial avant-gardes of his time and finally to Ferrara where he continued his artistic research.

For the first time the painter's links with Parisian cultural and literary circles are highlighted. It was indeed Apollinaire who, as early as 1913, introduced the artist into his circle - Picasso, Derain, Max Jacob, Braque, Picabia, … and to whom we owe the expression "metaphysical painting ". André Breton, Paul Eluard, Jean Paulhan, were also among the first to take an interest in his work and to promote it. As well as Paul Guillaume who was the first art dealer to take an interest in him.

The Musée de l'Orangerie houses the Jean Walter and Paul Guillaume collection, one of the finest European collections of paintings with 146 works from the 1860s to the 1930s. The loop is thus complete!
