Description

From 18 March to 6 July 2026, the Guimet Museum presents “K Beauty. Korean Beauty: The Story of a Phenomenon”, an unmissable exhibition offering insight into the international rise of Korean beauty. Through paintings, photographs, advertisements, dresses and accessories, the exhibition traces the evolution of aesthetic standards from the 18th century to contemporary K-Pop. Visitors will discover the origins of the Joseon aesthetic — pale complexion, sophisticated hairstyles, refined elegance — which still influence modern K-Beauty today, blending harmony, naturalness and the quest for balance.

Between traditional rituals and cosmetic innovations

The exhibition highlights how the 20th century – marked by photography, cinema and the rise of the cosmetics industry – shaped the new standards of Korean cosmetics. It also demonstrates how Hallyu, a veritable Korean cultural wave, has transformed K-Beauty into a global phenomenon, blending ancestral rituals, natural ingredients and iconic technological innovations such as layering or glass skin. This holistic approach to skincare has made South Korea a world leader in beauty today.

A cultural immersion not to be missed

Through a dialogue between historical works, ritual objects and contemporary creations, “K Beauty” reveals the continuity of Korean aesthetic codes and their constant reinvention in fashion, pop culture and today’s cosmetics industry. The Guimet Museum thus offers a comprehensive overview of a culture of skincare that has become a pillar of Korean soft power, uniting heritage, innovation and global influence.
