Description

Starting September 23, 2026, the Grand Palais unveils Cezanne and Us, a major exhibition dedicated to one of the most influential figures in modern painting: Paul Cezanne. Created in partnership with the Centre Pompidou and the public institution of the Musée d'Orsay and the [Musée de l'Orangerie](/en/musee-de-l-orangerie, this captivating exhibition offers an immersive journey through his work and the extraordinary legacy it has inspired from the late 19th century to today.

Key moments in Cezanne’s rise to worldwide recognition

The exhibition retraces the defining milestones that brought Cezanne to prominence: the pioneering shows organized by Ambroise Vollard between 1895 and 1901, the acquisition of two of his paintings by the Musée du Luxembourg thanks to the Caillebotte bequest in 1894, and his growing presence in major salons and international exhibitions at the beginning of the 20th century.
Little by little, Cezanne emerged as a guiding figure admired by avant‑garde movements, including Symbolist artists, who recognized and celebrated his influence as early as 1900.

A multifaceted legacy celebrated through to Contemporary Art

Room after room, the exhibition highlights how Cezanne inspired generations of artists from the interwar period to the post‑war era whether they worked in lyrical abstraction, hard‑edge painting, or other radical artistic approaches.
Through a dynamic mix of historical re-creations and bold juxtapositions of artworks, the exhibition reveals how Cezanne’s vision continues to fuel contemporary creation.
This “Cezanne seen by…” approach offers an immersive, sensitive, and resolutely modern reading of his work.
Don’t miss this major cultural highlight of autumn 2026 in Paris Region, an ideal opportunity to understand why Cezanne remains one of the most essential figures in the history of art.
