Description

Bought by the Caillebotte family in 1860, the property located in the town of Yerres, 25 minutes from Paris, has recently regained its original luster, thanks to a complete restoration. Art collector, patron and an artist himself, Gustave Caillebotte drew inspiration from the house, but especially from its magnificent park and the river that runs along the estate, which were the subjects of over 80 paintings during the 1870s. During the same period he completed his major Parisian paintings, including the famous “The Floor Scrapers,” which can be admired at the Musée d’Orsay.

In the heart of the estate, the Casin, the Caillebotte House, lets you delve into the painter’s private world. Fully restored, the rooms have been reconstructed and redecorated in the style of the period. The bedroom is even furnished with the painters’ original possessions, which were recently found in an auction, while the studio regularly exhibits Caillebotte’s paintings.

An impressionist landmark

As you wander through the lush park filled with over 30 species of trees, you will discover the same perspectives the young Caillebotte knew, and compare them to the paintings of the same places, thanks to digital touchpads. Then continue your visit to the vegetable garden, which Gustave Caillebotte particularly enjoyed. Feeling hungry? Try the restaurant, Le Chalet du Parc, and afterwards it’s time for a post-prandial boat ride down the Yerres River.

And to keep the magic going, we suggest a weekend around the property. A beautiful escape between nature and culture only 45 minutes from Paris!
