Paris International Agricultural Show
The Paris International Agricultural Show (or SIA to its friends) is an annual opportunity for Parisians to discover the very best of French expertise. With livestock farming, farm produce and local products, it’s a chance for the countryside to visit the city.
A trade fair for the agriculture of tomorrow
For almost 10 days from late February, the Porte de Versailles will host an unmissable event in the French capital. A place of discovery for young and old alike, the show is a special place where children can see farm animals and parents can taste regional products from all over France.
In its 58th year, the show is looking towards the future and what it holds for the agricultural world whose produce is aimed at consumers increasingly concerned with traceability and the quality of food products on a daily basis. After the show was cancelled due to the health crisis in 2021, it’s now time for a real reunion that focuses on pleasure and sharing between growers and the public, with many highlights.
Livestock farming, flavours and biodiversity
SIA 2022 is divided into 4 themed sections. In the first, set off on a journey to discover the flavours of the world. From all the continents in the world, including the islands, it is a real festival of flavours with a menu featuring drinks, cooked meats, jams, honey, olive oils and many other specialities, each more delicious than the last.
The second area is dedicated to livestock farming and its sectors. Come and admire some of France’s finest cows, bulls, goats, sheep, donkeys and even dogs, several of which compete in the prestigious and historical Concours Général Agricole which awards prizes to the best animals in France. A part of the show that families won’t want to miss.
Next up is agricultural services and professions. Discover the different routes leading to the professions of crop farming, livestock farming or forestry, in addition to methods of establishing a farm or setting up a cooperative with different professionals.
In the last section, you’ll find plants, gardening and vegetable gardens. Because fruit and vegetables are an integral part of our everyday life, this space is extremely important in the show with its playful and educational angle to make visitors aware of issues linked to biodiversity.
Neige, the mascot cow for 2022
Like every year, the show is proudly represented by a cow, a symbol of agriculture. This year, the honour goes to Neige. A 4-year-old cow belonging to the Abondance breed, her name refers to the snow that covers the alpine pastures, the Savoy mountains and the Abondance breed with its white patches. The quality of the milk produced by Neige and the other cows in her herd is used to make high-quality products such as Reblochon, Tomme and Raclette cheese.
