Description
Károly Ferenczy (1862–1917) embodies Hungary's artistic renaissance at the turn of the 20th century. Trained in Munich and then Paris, he drew inspiration from post-impressionism and symbolism, while asserting a deeply Hungarian identity. Produced in collaboration with the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest, the exhibition at the Petit Palais reveals his career, from his early naturalist paintings to his more abstract compositions, where light and movement become the main actors. His landscapes, portraits and genre scenes bear witness to a constant quest between realism and spirituality.
Immerse yourself in creative effervescence
Through a selection of more than eighty works, the Petit Palais invites you to discover the rich universe of Ferenczy, as well as that of his contemporaries, such as Rihard Jakopič and József Rippl-Rónai. The scenography highlights the colour schemes and technical innovations that marked his era, offering visitors a glimpse into the artistic effervescence of modern Hungary. This is a rare opportunity to rediscover an artist who has too often been overshadowed by his Western peers.
Your artistic journey continues in the exhibitions of Paris Region.
