Description
Imagine a dialogue between two artists who, although they never coexisted, left an indelible mark on the history of sculpture. This is the daring challenge taken up by the Louvre Museum with the exhibition *"Michelangelo / Rodin" which invites you to explore the similarities and differences between these two masters. From 15 April to 2 July 2026, more than 200 works—drawings, sculptures, models—will be brought together to reveal how, three centuries apart, Michelangelo (1475-1564) and Auguste Rodin (1840-1917) pushed the boundaries of the human body, emotion and technique. This is a rare opportunity to see masterpieces such as Michelangelo's ‘The Dying Slave’ and Rodin's ‘The Thinker’ side by side, symbols of an eternal quest for beauty and truth.
An immersive scenography to understand their genius
The exhibition does more than simply juxtapose their works: it offers a glimpse into the studios of these two artists, revealing their creative processes and shared obsessions. Thanks to innovative museography, you can see how Rodin, fascinated by Michelangelo, drew on his legacy to invent a modern sculptural language. From preparatory sketches to unfinished sculptures and archival documents, the exhibition highlights the technical challenges and aesthetic audacity that made these two men revolutionaries. A space dedicated to direct carving and modelling techniques will even allow you to touch – literally and figuratively – the essence of their work.
Not to be missed: guided tours and hands-on workshops are organised throughout the exhibition for art lovers and novices alike. An experience not to be missed if you want to understand how art, through the centuries, continues to speak to us.
