Description
From 24 March to 2 August 2026, the Institut du monde arabe (Arab World Institute) in Paris invites you to immerse yourself in the fascinating history of Byblos, one of the oldest cities in the world. Located on the Lebanese coast, this mythical city, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is considered the cradle of the alphabet and a crossroads of Mediterranean civilisations. The exhibition ‘Byblos, Eternal City’ promises a unique immersion into more than 7,000 years of history.
A journey through the millennia
Thanks to an immersive scenography and nearly 400 exceptional archaeological artefacts discovered in the city and the royal necropolis, the exhibition traces the evolution of Byblos from prehistory to the present day. The most recent excavation campaigns, which have uncovered the southern gate of the city and a perfectly preserved Bronze Age necropolis, reveal new treasures, some of which will be on display for the first time. You will discover Phoenician remains, ancient temples, art objects and rare manuscripts that bear witness to the city's central role in cultural and commercial exchanges. Digital displays and 3D reconstructions will enrich your experience, offering a vivid and interactive vision of this legendary city.
Where past and present meet
Byblos, Eternal City is not just a historical exhibition: it is an invitation to reflect on the transmission of knowledge and the richness of Mediterranean cultures. By exploring its roots, you will understand why Byblos continues to inspire artists, researchers and travellers. Don't miss this unique opportunity to discover the soul of a city that has shaped our shared history.
