Description
Since the 1930s, the Palais de la Porte Dorée located on the edge of the Bois de Vincennes has been home to an aquarium dedicated to tropical marine species. It today has no fewer than 15,000 guests broken down into 730 species and 84 pools, which can be visited.
For a long while it was the capital’s only aquarium and is a popular visitor attraction for Parisian families. Your children will love watching the comings and goings of the fish, with their shimmering colours and occasionally surprising shapes. In addition to the clownfish, skates, electric fish and piranhas, it is also home to a terrarium for turtles and a second of 135 m² for the site’s star animals: the crocodiles, including the small albino alligators, an extremely rare reptile species. They are safe and sound in the aquarium, which helps preserve endangered species.
With its explanatory posters and touch screens, a visit to the aquarium provides a great way to discover how marine species live and the many forms they take, in a fun and educational manner. 4 visitor trails explore the themes of reproduction, feeding, habitat and defence mechanisms, enabling you to understand how life is organised in our seas and oceans.
To round off the visit, all year round the aquarium proposes numerous workshops, exhibitions and guided tours to be enjoyed as a family. You won’t want to go home!
Discover the Aquarium tropical du Palais de la Porte Dorée through one of the treasure hunts in the Paris Region Adventures application specially designed for families and downloadable free of charge.
