Panthéon entry ticket
Until 31/12/2024 / PANTHEON
Description
On the Montagne Sainte-Geneviève in Paris, visit the Panthéon, the masterpiece of the architect Soufflot. A grandiose structure.
Soufflot aimed to rival St Peter’s Basilica in Rome and Saint Paul’s Cathedral in London. The monumental peristyle is inspired by the Pantheon of Agrippa in Rome.
A decorative programme
From 1874, mounted paintings illustrating the history of Saint Genevieve and the epic of the Christian and monarchical origins of France were added to the sanctuary.
The crypt
Discover the great figures buried in the crypt, who have shaped French national identity. A permanent exhibition summarises the life and work of the personalities buried there, from Voltaire and Rousseau to Alexandre Dumas.
The Foucault pendulum
Installed in 1851, then removed before being reinstalled in 1995, this pendulum proves the rotation of the Earth.
