Musée Volant Salis

Calling all flying enthusiasts: the Musée Volant Salis aviation museum in southern Paris is a must. It’s a family affair, where passion and tradition combine to make one very special place indeed!

  1. Musée Volant Salis

Description

A passion for technique, a taste for adventure, and a desire to pass on their knowledge and continue learning themselves have led three generations of the Salis family to devote themselves to historic aviation in this tiny aerodrome in Essonne, to the south of Paris. After all, it’s practically in their blood! Three years after Louis Blériot flew across the English Channel in 1909, Jean-Baptiste Salis took to the skies in a Blériot VI “Dragonfly” that he had restored himself. A few years later, he would become the first pilot to fly over Mont Blanc.

An incredible collection of classic planes

Over 70 vintage aeroplanes are now based on the site and regularly used for flight demonstrations, particularly during the big Whitsun celebrations that take place every year.
These activities make the Musée Volant Salis a great place to watch history come alive. Trace the history of the incredible saga of aviation through around forty aircraft, from the early days all the way through the adventures of man and machine. Tremble along with the first aerobatic aircraft and passenger craft, salute the exploits of World War I pilots and more… A special mention goes to the unique Morane Saulnier collection and the B-17 Flying Fortress, an American bomber and one of the most recognisable craft from World War II.

If it’s a rush of adrenaline you’re after, first flights on retro aircraft can be made all year round.

In addition to the museum, there’s a shop on site offering all sorts of gifts and souvenirs for both little kids, and big ones too.

You’ll also love the Air and Space Museum, which is one of the biggest aerospace museums in the world.
