Le Grand Rex
Description
Located on Boulevard Poissonnière, the Grand Rex has been a Parisian landmark since 1932. It combines Art Deco architecture with cutting-edge technology. Designed by Jacques Haïk, it has stood the test of time. It has adapted to changes in cinema and society while retaining its unique character. The little brother of the Olympia, it is classified as a historic monument and attracts spectators from all over the world every year. The Rex has evolved, adding screens and modernising. In 2022, for its 90th anniversary, it has been given a facelift and returned to its former glory.
Once upon a time…
With its Art Deco façade and grand hall inspired by Renaissance palaces, the Grand Rex is an architectural marvel. The interior, famous for its starry vaulted ceiling and exotic décor, transports you to a world where dreams and reality meet. Its main auditorium, the largest in Europe, is a masterpiece that has evolved with the times while preserving its historic charm.
On the occasion of its 90th anniversary, it celebrated the renovation of its historic exterior façade. You can now see the original metal marquee and the iconic rotating sign on the roof, unique in Paris. The façade lighting has been modernised with LEDs, replacing the old neon lights to illuminate the boulevard.
The interior has also been given a facelift that is reminiscent of its former glory. Flooring inspired by the original, interior decoration that closely resembles the period, and, in response to current environmental concerns, an eco-friendly air conditioning system has been installed.
