Every year, in the run-up to Christmas and the festive season, curious giant colourful animals invade the gardens of château de Thoiry and the labyrinthe at Wow Safari Thoiry.

In the Footsteps of Pachamama

From 17 October 2026 to 7 March 2027, Thoiry Lumières Sauvages returns for its ninth edition, dedicated to the natural world. Its new theme, ‘In the Footsteps of Pachamama’, takes you on a night-time adventure spanning nearly 3 km, amidst more than 3,000 illuminated sculptures.
This year, a mystery lies hidden behind the lights. An Adventurer travels the world in search of a forgotten secret. From the depths of the ocean to the icy expanses of Greenland, from the steppes of Mongolia to India, every landscape and every encounter reveals a new clue. His journey ultimately leads him to Peru, where Pachamama awaits him.
In the Andean cultures of South America, Pachamama embodies Mother Earth and the nurturing earth. She evokes the deep bond that unites human beings with nature and, more broadly, the interdependence of all living beings. A symbolic figure who lends the exhibition a dimension that is as poignant as it is universal.

A story to follow through the lights

As night falls, the trail unfolds like a life-size story. The light sculptures mark the Adventurer’s quest, whilst visitors watch, listen and search for the clues scattered along their path. Little by little, the story unfolds and the mystery of Pachamama takes shape.
This narrative transforms the walk into an exploration to be shared. Children follow the stages of the adventure, each moving at their own pace through the illuminated landscapes. It’s a playful way of exploring the connections between animals, plants and human beings.

A winter’s night in the heart of nature

To respect the animals and their natural rhythms, the Lumières Sauvages trail is situated away from the zoo. The visit can therefore begin during the day, with a chance to meet the animals in the zoo and the safari park, before continuing at dusk in the illuminated gardens. To prolong the immersive experience, it is also possible to spend the night on site, close to the bears and wolves, and discover the estate in a whole new light. An unforgettable experience to enjoy as a family!
