Description
Ostensibly a women's label, Paule Ka was actually the brainchild of a man, Serge Cafjinger, who founded the brand in 1988 and, collection after collection, turned it into an institution of Parisian fashion, until handing over the reins in 2014 (and then making a brief comeback in 2018).
Born in Lille and raised in Brazil, the designer opted for a style inspired by the 1950s and 1960s and their iconic heroines, Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly and Jackie Kennedy, who became his most prominent muses. The emblematic short dresses and stripy cardigans sum up the timeless charm of the label’s collections: sometimes very understated and conventional, sometimes outrageously glamorous. And every item is made with the greatest of care. Like the heavyweights, the label has its own workshops in Paris, complete with an army of wonderfully deft needle wielders.
In early 2019, a new chapter began with the appointment, as creative director, of Maxime Simoëns, a young couturier who had already made quite a name for himself (Léonard, Azzaro, etc.). Paule Ka looks set to keep on dazzling us for some time to come!
