Description

In 2026, Saint-Cloud will welcome a new cultural gem: the Musée du Grand Siècle, a venue entirely dedicated to 17th-century French art, history and thought. Housed in the former Sully barracks at the edge of the Domaine national, this museum will offer visitors a true immersion into the era from Henri IV to the Regency, a golden age of French culture.

An exceptional collection, the result of a prestigious donation

The heart of the museum is based on the exceptional donation by Pierre Rosenberg, academician and former director of the Louvre. His collection includes more than 3,500 drawings, 673 paintings, 805 Murano glass animals, and a library of 50,000 works on art history. These treasures, currently on display at the Petit Château de Sceaux, will find their place in a museum space designed to showcase each work in its historical and artistic context.

An ambitious architectural project that respects heritage

Entrusted to architect Rudy Ricciotti, the renovation of the Sully barracks aims to transform this historic site into a modern museum while preserving its identity. The Charles X building will house the exhibition spaces, while a contemporary extension will house an auditorium, educational rooms, a gourmet restaurant and a French garden.

A centre for research and cultural mediation

In addition to the exhibition, the museum will offer a collectors' cabinet and a Nicolas Poussin research centre dedicated to the study of the Grand Siècle. This place of learning and knowledge sharing will offer themed tours on power, faith, lifestyle and science, accessible to all audiences. It promises an immersive and educational experience, celebrating the spirit of the 17th century in all its richness and diversity.

Art and history enthusiasts will enjoy visiting the museums and monuments of Paris and its surrounding region.
