Façade du musée Lambinet

Lambinet Museum

A former private residence from the 18th century, the Lambinet Museum was built for King Louis XV’s building contractor. In 1929, the Lambinet family bequeathed it to the city of Versailles to set up a museum that has been open to the public since 1932.

  1. Lambinet Museum

Description

The musée Lambinet owes its existence to the generosity of Nathalie Lambinet, who bequeathed the mansion to the town of Versailles in 1929. Built in the heart of the royal town, just a few minutes from the château for Joseph-Barnabé Porchon, Louis XV's building contractor, this property is a precious example of 18th-century architecture. The museum opened its doors to the public in 1932, providing a prestigious setting for its priceless collections.

Eclectic and prestigious collections

The Musée Lambinet stands out for the diversity of its collections, which span a period from the Renaissance to the mid-20th century. Paintings, sculptures, drawings, engravings, furniture and objets d'art are all on display, providing a comprehensive overview of artistic development through the ages. The museum has also benefited from numerous gifts and bequests, which have enriched its collections over the years.
The ground floor is dedicated to the history of the museum and its collections, highlighting the major donors who have contributed to its development. The first floor features art history rooms and a faithful recreation of an 18th-century flat. Finally, the second floor is devoted to the history of the town of Versailles, from the 17th to the 20th century.

An immersion in the art of living in Versailles

The musée Lambinet not only displays works of art; it also invites visitors to discover the art of living in Versailles in the 18th century. The reconstructed rooms offer a unique insight into the daily life of the elite of the period, with furniture and objets d'art that bear witness to the refinement and elegance of the time.

Guided tours and workshops are regularly organised for families and children, allowing everyone to discover the collections in a fun and interactive way.

Take the time to discover all the beauties of the city of Versailles.
