Egon Schiele (1890-1918) and Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960-1988): Two giants in painting and two destinies broken at the age of 28. Through a selection of some 250 works and two distinct paths, the Louis Vuitton Foundation traces the fleeting yet formidably intense careers of two major figures of the 20th century art scene.

A Swiss artist in Paris

The Musée Maillol brings us an exhibition on Giacometti. From tradition to avant-garde that takes a new look at the work of the Surrealist artist by juxtaposing them with works of major classical and modern sculptors of his time. Just over 50 sculptures by Giacometti rub shoulders with 25 pieces by Auguste Rodin, Antoine Bourdelle, Aristide Maillol, Constantin Brancusi, Germaine Richier and others. A pleasing conversation to look forward to!

Alphonse Mucha’s talents as a poster artist – his flower-women, the elegant swirls that made him famous – almost make us forget that he was also a painter, sculptor, draftsman … An accomplished artist and master of Art Nouveau, who remained profoundly attached to his Slavic roots, and a career worth (re)discovering at the Musée du Luxembourg.

Striking photography

The Jeu de Paume pays tribute to the work of Dorothea Lange, an emblematic figure of American photography at the beginning of the 20th century. A mix of period photographs and large format prints, in the exhibition Dorothea Lange. Politiques du visible depicts her humanism in a Depression-stricken America. Spotlight on chiaroscuro

Caravagio (1571 – 1610), master of 18th century painting, only produced some 50 works throughout his career. The exhibition Caravagio’s Roman period. His friends and enemies at the Jacquemart-André museum accomplishes the feat of uniting 9 of his masterpieces borrowed from the greatest Italian museums. The focus falls on this Roman period and the artistic milieu in which he lived at the time.
