Description
In September 2025, the Bibliothèque nationale de France - site Richelieu - will unveil an exceptional exhibition: Impressions Nabies. This artistic event highlights a little-known but fascinating aspect of the work of the Nabis, the innovative artists of the late 19th century, including Pierre Bonnard, Édouard Vuillard, Maurice Denis and Félix Vallotton.
Prints as artistic manifestos
Although the Nabis are often associated with painting and the decorative arts, the exhibition reveals their passion for the printed image. Thanks to the techniques of colour lithography and wood engraving, they were able to turn printmaking into a veritable field of experimentation. Posters, illustrations, programmes for shows, decorative objects: their graphic creations bear witness to a profound desire to integrate art into everyday life.
A rare and precious collection
Nearly two hundred pieces**, mainly from the collections of the BnF and enriched by prestigious loans (musée d'Orsay, musée Maurice Denis, musée Van Gogh d'Amsterdam…), make up this rich and sensitive tour. Visitors will discover the diversity of media, the finesse of the compositions and the avant-garde spirit that animated these artists.
Art for all, art everywhere
Impressions Nabies celebrates a time when art moved beyond traditional settings into homes, streets and books. It's an exhibition that resonates with our times, reminding us that art, far from being elitist, can be an everyday companion.
Paris Region's exhibitions are sure to win you over.
