Description

In Nemours, south of Paris and a few kilometres from Fontainebleau, in the heart of a picturesque forest which houses several prehistoric sites, discover the Île-de-France Museum of Prehistory and its exceptional collections.

The approximately 3,400 objects presented in the permanent collections in chronological order retrace the major stages of Prehistory and Protohistory throughout the region, from the first remains attesting to human presence (around 600,000 years ago) to the end of the Gallic period.

Large floor casts from the Pincevent and Etiolles prehistoric sites highlight the excavation work of archaeologists and display the archaeological remains as they are uncovered. The visit ends with the presentation of a large Carolingian boat (9th century AD) discovered in an old channel of the Seine at Noyen-sur-Seine (Seine-et-Marne).
