- Gianni Versace Retrospective
Description
From 5 June and throughout the summer until 6 September 2026, the Maillol Museum presents the first major French retrospective dedicated to the designer since 1986. A natural choice for Paris, a city where fashion stands as a major artistic and cultural language.
The exhibition brings together nearly 450 exceptional pieces: iconic silhouettes, accessories, sketches, decorative objects, photographs and rare archives that offer a comprehensive overview of more than twenty years of design. The pop and immersive scenography transforms the exhibition into a visual experience true to Versace’s spectacular spirit.
Fashion, art and pop culture: a style that has become a manifesto
The retrospective explores the designer’s many sources of inspiration through more than 120 outfits. From Italian modernism to references to antiquity, from Baroque opulence to the influences of Pop Art, Versace’s fashion engages with art history, music and popular culture.
The designs resonate with major artists such as Botticelli and Andy Warhol, whilst leading fashion photographers from Richard Avedon to Helmut Newton, via Irving Penn and Mario Testino, helped shape the iconic image of his collections. Supermodels, musicians and international personalities also brought his style to the global stage.
Gianni Versace and Paris, the world’s catwalk
For Gianni Versace, Paris was the ultimate catwalk. In 1989, he launched his haute couture line Atelier Versace during Paris Fashion Week, with legendary shows at the Ritz Hotel on Place Vendôme. Presented on the eve of the 30th anniversary of the designer’s death, the exhibition at the Maillol Museum takes on a powerful symbolic significance.
An unmissable event for all fashion and exhibition enthusiasts.
