Georges Brassens Park

Located between the flea market at Porte de Vanves and Porte de Versailles, Georges Brassens Park is a green haven framed by two imposing navy-blue gates. Both discreet and steeped in mystery, it holds a multitude of wonders to explore.

You have surely already heard of the famous poet and singer Georges Brassens. The park pays tribute to this legendary figure, who lived in the neighbourhood from 1968 and whose songs won the hearts of Parisians. As a mark of appreciation, it is not unusual to look up and see some of the paths bearing the names of his songs. The park offers a friendly setting for a wide range of activities: jogging, fitness exercises in the sports area, children’s games in the various dedicated play areas, discovery of the plant varieties in the scented garden, a visit to the educational beehive, or an exploration of the vines planted on site.

For lovers of public benches

Long before Georges, this was a kind of kitchen garden where vegetables and vines flourished. After that, the Vaugirard slaughterhouses stood here for less than a century before the idea of creating a park came to life. But traces of its history are never far away. You will find: the recently restored Clos des Morillons vineyards, the belfry overlooking the park’s landscape, and the former horse market hall, which now hosts the book market and auction sales every weekend.

Here, your four-legged companions have a place all to themselves: the dog alley, where making new friends is not uncommon. And if we listen to Georges: lovers of public benches can come here to kiss and, moved, realise that it was on one of those famous benches that they lived the finest moment of their love… Beautiful, isn’t it?

Chasing butterflies—or rather, bees

Around the Pinot Noir vines and within the beehive, educational activities are offered. Children are introduced to the mysteries of bees, learning about the importance of their work, the phenomenon of swarming and the pollination process. Every first Saturday in October, the Honey Festival is held.

The park is a paradise for children, who can enjoy plenty of activities such as swings, pony rides, table tennis, merry-go-rounds and Polichinelle puppet shows.
