Description
A walk through the Forêt Domaniale de la Commanderie between Larchant and Nemours to the south of Paris is the perfect opportunity for a glimpse of some truly remarkable landscapes.
With its stretches of fine sand and picturesque rocks, the land around this former Knights Templar Commandery blends seamlessly with the forest of Fontainebleau. This national forest runs along the geological perimeter of the Gulf of Larchant, and surrounds marshland that has been officially listed a regional nature reserve.
It’s the perfect place to come and relax, take a stroll or get active in the great outdoors at any time of year – hiking and climbing are particularly popular here. Two outstanding areas are particularly pleasant: the area where the famous l’Eléphant and La Dame Jouanne rocks are located, and the Old Commandery.
With its varied scenery and rock formations, not to mention the wealth of wildlife and its climate, the forest is home to a patchwork of landscapes and forest ecosystems. These unique ecological conditions, together with the added benefit of the nearby nature reserve, have led to incredible biodiversity in the area.
