Description
From 18 November 2025 to 1 March 2026, the Musée du Quai Branly – Jacques Chirac invites you to discover dragons, these legendary creatures that have populated the imagination for millennia. From imperial China to medieval Europe and pre-Columbian America, the exhibition reveals how these hybrid beings, sometimes benevolent, sometimes terrifying, have shaped stories, beliefs and the arts throughout the world. Sacred objects, ancient prints, monumental sculptures: more than 200 pieces, some never before seen in France, await you on a journey that is as captivating as it is informative.
Between symbols and epic tales
Dragons are not mere monsters: they embody natural forces, guardians of treasure or figures of wisdom. In Asia, they symbolise power and prosperity, while in the West, they become the formidable adversaries of heroes. The exhibition highlights these contrasts through major works such as Japanese screens, medieval tapestries and African ritual masks. An immersive scenography, punctuated with multimedia devices, plunges you into the heart of legends, where every detail tells a story.
An invitation to dream and marvel
Beyond their mythological dimension, dragons question our relationship with the unknown and with nature. As you walk through the rooms, you will discover how these creatures have inspired artists, writers and filmmakers, from Tolkien to Miyazaki. The exhibition is for everyone: history buffs, art lovers, and families in search of adventure. Don't miss this opportunity to rediscover the timeless magic of dragons during your visit.
