Description
The exhibition Clair Obscur, on display from 4 March to 31 August 2026 at the Bourse de Commerce – Pinault Collection, transforms the Parisian monument into a landscape where light and darkness interact in a dramatic interplay inspired by chiaroscuro. Through some twenty modern and contemporary artists, the exhibition explores this visual language inherited from the Renaissance and Baroque periods, revisited to question our perception of the visible and the invisible. An experience that invites you to physically feel the materiality of light, its contrasts, its flashes and its shadows.
An immersive and sensitive staging
Under the museum's spectacular dome, Pierre Huyghe's Camata (2024) establishes a hypnotic ritual that will immerse you in a suspended temporality. Further on, the works of Victor Man recall the dramatic intensity of Caravaggio, while two major pieces by Bill Viola feature figures slowly emerging from the shadows. Installations, paintings and videos thus trace a unique sensory journey that makes each room a stage between deep shadow and revealing light.
A contemporary language of the inner world
Much more than just a pictorial technique, chiaroscuro becomes a philosophical and narrative tool for exploring the unconscious, memory and the dark side of the contemporary world. The exhibition reveals how today's artists are reinventing this contrast to question our emotions, perceptions and the tensions of reality.
Lovers of immersive art and travellers seeking a powerful cultural experience in Paris in 2026 have something to look forward to!
