Centre Tignous d'Art Contemporain
Description
Located at 116 Rue de Paris, a stone's throw from the Robespierre metro station, in a former manor house with a contemporary architectural extension, the Centre Tignous d'Art Contemporain showcases the most up-to-date artistic creations.
Formerly known as Le 116, the Centre was renamed in 2017 as a tribute to the Montreuil cartoonist. It hosts three exhibitions per year featuring artwork of local and international origin. By means of production residences, it supports innovative art forms that are often on the fringes of the art market, but closely linked to contemporary society. Each exhibition is accompanied by a programme of events (workshops, performances, etc.) and guided tours.
Where Bas-Montreuil, with its workshops converted into lofts and ** artists’ studios**, meets Haut-Montreuil which remains more rooted in the working-class history of this suburb that was once part of the red (communist) belt of Paris, the Centre is viewed as a space for meetings and discussion between artists and visitors.
