Description

To mark /fr/parcours/parcours-thematiques/sur-les-traces-de-l-amerique—celebrating the 250th anniversary of American Independence—the /fr/chateau-de-versailles presents a spectacular and educational event: America and Versailles, on July 4 and 5.

For one exceptional weekend, the Gardens of Trianon become the stage for a vast historical reenactment retracing the alliance between France and the American Revolutionaries in the 18th century. Designed for all ages, this immersive experience invites visitors to step into history and encounter the key figures and defining moments of the birth of the United States.

Reenactments, music, and camp life

From the moment you arrive, total immersion begins. More than 500 costumed reenactors bring to life the royal quarters of Louis XVI, the camp of the American insurgents, and the British bivouac.
Stroll freely through the encampments, watch military and equestrian demonstrations, discover traditional crafts, and enjoy live period music and dances—from Scottish quadrilles to Boston dances—offering a vibrant journey through 18th-century life.

A spectacular final battle

The highlight of the weekend is the Grand Battle, an impressive reenactment inspired by the Battle of Yorktown, opposing American insurgents and British forces.
Designed as a large-scale open-air show, this dramatic finale delivers an epic conclusion to a truly unforgettable event.

Blending living history, family-friendly activities, and the majestic setting of Versailles, America and Versailles promises a memorable experience that brings Franco-American history vividly to life.
