Picasso – Rodin
A meeting between two individuals at the very pinnacle of the art world: that is what is on offer simultaneously at the Musée Picasso-Paris and the Musée Rodin who together have come up with the Picasso – Rodin Exhibition, an unprecedented combination of two exceptional artists whose inventions and work have left a substantial mark on modern art.
Running simultaneously at the two institutions, it highlights unexpected convergences in the creative processes that characterise the work of these two geniuses.
While the Musée Rodin focuses on the solutions invented by the two artists to represent the real via the plastic arts, the Musée Picasso sheds light on the private sphere of experimental creation in the workshop. You can also walk in the footsteps of Picasso, who in 1900 visited the “Rodin” retrospective at the Pavillon de l’Alma.
The aim is not to show what Picasso borrowed from Rodin, but rather to examine the significant convergences between Rodin’s work and several periods of Picasso’s career. Creating a dialogue between all fields of creation (painting, sculpture, ceramics, graphic arts and photography), the exhibition presents the wealth of artistic techniques used: from assembly, to recovery of materials; from the artists approach to space, to public monuments; from their focus on fragments, to their taste for incompleteness… Two iconic sites will receive particular attention: Rodin’s studio in Meudon and Picasso’s in Boisgeloup.
