- MATCH. Design & Sport - a Story Looking to the Future
Description
With the approach of the 2024 Olympic & Paralympic Games, the museums of the Paris Region are seizing this opportunity to look at sport from every angle. And this is exactly what the Cultural Olympiad achieves, inviting us to take advantage of all sorts of events relating to racket sports, ball sports and various sporting icons. The Luxembourg Museum is no exception, with its exhibition entitled MATCH. Design & Sport - a Story Looking to the Future, which invites enthusiasts and curious visitors to reflect on sport through the prism of design. So slip on your cutting-edge trainers and follow the guide.
When innovation serves performance
Aerodynamic helmets, perfectly streamlined bonnets, textiles as light as a feather… Nowadays, it takes more than physical performance to make it to the winners’ podium. Accessories at the cutting edge of design and technology have become one of the keys to success for any self-respecting sportsperson.
From the classic athletic figure represented by the Discobolus, to the latest e-sport challenges, the exhibition MATCH. Design & Sport - a Story Looking to the Future will look at many different facets of the relationship between design and sport. Environmental issues, robotics and performance enhancement through technology are just a few of the topics that feed the debate and constantly question how humans fit into the equation.
Past, present and future. Past and present inventions lead to the innovations of tomorrow. In the aim of optimising physical performance and overcoming weaknesses, design continually builds on technological feats in an incremental dialogue between design and sport.
An immersive stride
The exhibition MATCH. Design & Sport - a Story Looking to the Future offers more than a mere visit. The exhibition tour has been designed to create an immersive experience that mirrors the momentum and dynamism seen in the worlds of sport and design. The diversity of media only adds to the exhibition’s inherently energetic feel. Indeed, more than 150 objects will be on display, including prototypes, films, interactive applications, sketches and some unique historical items.
Although the exhibition focuses mainly on the feats of design in the sporting world, it also informs us of the progress made in related fields for the benefit of spectators and in terms of performance analysis tools. Drones, video cameras and 3D modelling, for example, are technologies that help to improve the spectator experience in this era of sport digitalisation, reflecting as accurately as possible the sporting performances of today and anticipating those of tomorrow.
