Description

Her father is none other than a former Prime Minister, but Eva Jospin is better known in the art world. Her skilful hands transform forests, caves and gardens into precious, delicate works of art. Under the spell of this charming, modern artist, the Palace of Versailles is devoting a captivating exhibition to her. Her monumental creation entitled “Chambre de Soie” is the centrepiece of this exhibition that turns the royal residence into a fascinating jungle. The 350 m² embroidered decor, which was tailor-made in India, reaches an impressive 105 metres in length. A remarkable encounter between the artist’s contemporary creative style and the majestic and historic Palace of Versailles.

A creation in perfect harmony with the Versailles orangery

This amazing exhibition offers an opportunity to stroll through the orangery, which is usually out of bounds to visitors. Plunge into Eva Jospin’s poetic art world, surrounded by orange trees from Portugal, Spain and Italy, as well as lemon trees, oleanders, palms and even a few pomegranate trees that are hundreds of years old.

To engage in direct dialogue with the palace and its gardens, Eva takes her inspiration from the Apollo’s Baths Grove. According to the institution, **Hubert Robert’s work gave Eva food for thought on the square in the gardens, and was a source of inspiration for her creation. The incredible embroidery is displayed in a continuous line, inviting visitors to take an immersive walk through a fantasy garden…

A Dior haute couture parade at Versailles

Already seen at the Dior haute couture parade for the 2021-2022 autumn-winter season, Eva Jospin’s work takes visitors into a poetic and dreamlike world. Every thread of her creation, achieved in cooperation with the craftspeople of the Chanakya workshop and the Chanakya School of Craft in Mumbai, is based on the artist’s original drawings. Hence, they weave a fascinating story in more than 400 shades of skeins of silk, cotton and jute thread.

Her desire is to look at her creations as she observes them. She contemplates the overall picture before getting lost in the details. This romantic and unique exhibition promises a walk into fantasy and daydreams.
