An internationally renowned Czech artist, Alphonse Mucha remains indissociable from the image of Paris 1900. His celebrity comes mainly from his elegant posters with a very strong style, emblematic of Art Nouveau. But his work as a poster artist too often overshadows other aspects of his production, including paintings, sculptures, drawings, decorations, objets d’art…
Through all these works, the figure of a man takes shape, mystic and visionary, animated by true political thought, at the time of the Czech national renewal and the splitting up of the Austro-Hungarian empire. All the preparatory work for the Slavic saga between 1911 and 1928 shows his attachment to his native country and his dream of unity among the Slavic people. Beyond being the master of Art Nouveau, it is his abundant work and the singular personality of this artist that the exhibition intends to reveal to visitors.
