Description
A few steps away from the Auberge Ravoux, known as the House of Van Gogh, the Colombières Manor has housed the Daubigny Museum since 1980. This museum will captivate fans of impressionism, with its precious collection of paintings by one of the movement’s precursors. After settling here in 1861, Charles-François Daubigny began making major contributions to town’s artistic and cultural reputation of the town.
To the source of impressionism
Four collections are on display at the museum. The main exhibit includes Charles-François Daubigny’s paintings, engravings and drawings from the end of the 19th century and early 20th century. You’ll also discover the work of the painter’s son Karl Daubigny, as well as work by other artists such as Jules Dupré and Maximilien Luce. In two other rooms you can view examples of alternate artistic movements, such as one of the largest *naïve art collections** in France, a feline art collection, plus contemporary art by renowned artists such as Pierre Alechinsky, Antoni Clavé and Jean
Messagier.
Prolong your visit to this “city of painters,” with a stop at Daubigny’s authentic former home studio. Once back in Paris, you can also admire some of his work at the Musée d’Orsay.
