Aimed at children, the Musée en Herbe in Paris is devoting its new temporary exhibition to the lavish and quirky universe of Speedy Graphito.

An immersive and fun exhibition for the whole family

Even if don’t know the name of Speedy Graphito, you are sure to be familiar with the work of this versatile artist who succeeded in making Street Art popular in France in the mid-1980s.

The artist's work truly mirrors his era and its collective imagination, with a universe in which characters from Japanese manga and the world of Walt Disney meet in the same space, together with American superheroes and the logos of major brands. He successfully captures children’s attention, as they find in his work the symbols of their personal culture.

Through this retrospective presenting some forty works, the Musée en Herbe is pursuing its mission of raising children's awareness of art. Faced with these poetic compositions, put together like real puzzles that interweave characters from cartoons, comics and video games, children and teenagers can come to understand the freedom that lies in the act of creation.

The exhibition, designed as an intergenerational immersive exploration is a real journey into the heart of Speedy Graphito's imagination. Visitors take turns in a “room of a thousand treasures”, where the heroes of the artist's childhood are exhibited on a giant doll, before entering the “city of enigmas”, with its representations of how our world is constantly changing in the face of visual and digital advances. The “museum in the clouds” makes a foray into the world of Surrealist painters before leading parents and children into the “space-time tunnel”, where science fiction and consumerism mingle. The tour ends with the “fantastic garden” in which mythological, mystical and fantastic creatures meet.

The world according to Speedy Graphito

Behind this dynamic-sounding pseudonym hides the painter Olivier Rizzo, who at an early age appropriated city walls as his canvas on which to share his colourful works with the widest possible audience.

The internationally recognised artist has been on the artistic scene for almost 40 years with his creations executed with brushes and stencils. Keeping his ear to the ground, Speedy Graphito draws his inspiration from popular culture and echoes its evolution by offering a vision of it that decompartmentalises the arts. His works interrogate the world via current topics such as consumerism, mass culture or ecology. All the available surface space is occupied by figures, signs, logos and bright colours that catch the eye and treat the viewer to a firework display of shapes and shimmering colours.

These Imaginary Worlds offer families a true artistic experience where childhood and imagination reign supreme. Treasure hunts, arcade games and interactive journeys complete this fun visit, but if you want even more, go for visits in which the children are the heroes, and workshops for children from 2 and a half to 12 years old.

A program for budding artists!
