This year, due to the health crisis, the Festival de Saint-Denis will not be sharing tunes from the great organs of the royal basilica. But rest assured: that festival’s sibling – the Festival Métis Plaine Commune – is going ahead from 1st to 16 October 2020.
With jazz, classical music, world and raï, this year’s theme is Africa Mix! and celebrates the joyful mix of cultures found in Seine-Saint-Denis. The line-up: Nicolas Simon and his “pocket symphony” take us on a musical journey from Mahler and Schubert to Carlos Jobim and Astor Piazzola, even including Kurt Weill, on 1st October at Epinay-sur-Seine. Meanwhile, the jazz, classical and world creations of Fiona Monbet and her ensemble, Meta, await you in Aubervilliers on 2 October. Sofiane Saidi – “Prince du raï 2.0” – and his three musicians will be showcasing their creations blending raï and classical music in parc de La Courneuve.
Finally, and for the first time in France – Chineke! Chamber Ensemble, who celebrate Beethoven, Florence Price and Chevalier de Saint-George at Saint-Ouen on 15 October and l’Ile-Saint-Denis on 16 October.
